Dream vs Wonder sea sickness?
Both times on the Wonder I felt pretty lousy the first night acclimating to the 'movement' on the ship and I was wondering if that feeling isn't as bad on the Dream since she's a larger ship with stabilizers.
Next month will be my family's first visit on the Dream. ( so excited). |

The Wonder and Magic both have stabilizers too!
The extra height and length of the Dream could increase your sea sickness, but as alway's the weather, wind, sea current's, and tides will affect any cruise ship. Hopefully you have booked a Midship's Stateroom on a lower deck, as those will be the Stateroom's that will experience less side to side, front to back, and up and down movement during rough sea's! We have been on the Wonder twice out of PC and been sick once on the first night. Last August we sailed the Dream and weren't sick at all. I know there are a lot of variables, but maybe the stabilizers were better.

First Night Currents
The first night out of Port Canaveral is always a bit rocky, as you are crossing the Gulf Stream. Things calm down by the next morning.
We have traveled with those who left the dining room with a touch of mal de mer, but they were fine for breakfast.

As others have said, the first night out of FL almost always has more 'movement' because of the Gulf Stream.
I found that taking simple ginger pills upon embarking and again in the evening works wonders. Also, do NOT skip any meals, just make them smaller. Not eating actually works against you; keeping something in your stomach is helpful. Get up onto the deck and into fresh air periodically, and look out onto the horizon. It helps your equillibrium and allows your brain to match the movement to your body.

Our 3-night Dream cruise in late October was a little rocky, until the last night... It was so bad late that night that when we went up to Cabanas we had to hold onto the walls. I was a little queasy even with Bonine.

That was my wife and I on the Dream in September. I actually left the dining room just after desert was served. We had to lie down for a little while and get some fresh air. I actually started to get a migrane the first night. No probelms after that first night though.

Seasickness
We just got off the Magic (12/24-30). I was sick the first day (starting feeling ill within minutes of leaving port), and part of the second. I used sea bands, Bonine, and the patch (transderm Scopolomine). I also got accupuncture in the spa at noon on Day 2...and felt much better after that. The lovely and very earnest Tea told me that it would help, and maybe I wanted to to enough...but I was fine the rest of the trip. I never could sit in the WD Theater...maybe being windowless, or seeing everyone in front of me sway or looking down on to stage...but it bothered me the whole cruise. I was fine everywhere else.

I never considered that the sea may be rougher while leaving...though for me I think it's more of a getting my sea legs thing. I usually feel bad during the first dinner. Ginger pills ( and ginger candy) seem to help. I always pack Bonnie but we never use it.
By day 2 I feel great, did have some motion issues after the 7 day cruise getting my land legs back...felt like I was still on the ship. Didn't have this problem on our 3 or 4 day cruise. Guess I was just hoping the bigger ship would eliminate that ![]() Thanks for your help |

From our experience with both the Magic and Wonder compared to the Dream and RCI's Liberty/Freedom of the Seas...Every ship rocks and rolls!
Like PPs have said...it all depends on the winds, the currents, the ship's direction, sometimes the ships speed. We have had had smooth sailing on all ships...and we have had rough sailing on all ships. It just all depends. Plan for the worst...hope for the best! Enjoy your cruise! Crystal

. I've tried ginger & bonine, the only thing that works for me is the patch but I hate the common rebound side effect (after taking it off when cruise is over) of feeling woozy.

I went to target yesterday and found the sea bands and dramamine but couldn't find the "bonnie" or ginger candy or other products that everyone is recommending. Where can I get those?
Also what do you do for kids that feel sick? I have 3, 11 and 15 and want to be ready if they aren't feeling great. |
